Meet Your Host

Hello and nice to make your e-quaintance. My name is Nicole Abucejo. I also go by my designer name "Nabuki" of Nabuki Creations. (refer below to the story behind my name or here) I am a Visual Communication Designer based in California, using multidisciplinary design for branding in both print and digital solutions. I just love creating in general whether its for professional purposes or "just for fun" projects. I'm a friendly team player and enjoy that feeling from strategizing and solving a problem. I'm always up for new challenges that help me grow as an individual and as a designer.

Education History

Growing up I was always drawn to design (blog article on this topic coming soon) and in high school I pushed to have a degree in a creative field but that was not a popular option with the parents. So I ended up at the University of California, Irvine to originally graduate as a Biology Major with the intentions of going to medical school. An unexpected personal tragedy happened 2 years into college and I changed majors for various reasons. I ended up graduating with a degree in International Studies with a minor in Public Health and Epidemiology. (I did have a specific plan for this after college) Before graduating, I started taking more design classes and thrived in it. A few years later, I was sitting at my desk job (not-design related) which I wasn't happy with and one day, I decided to really put my foot down. I felt like I wasn't done with design and eager to learn more so I decided to go full force and go back to school. Best decision I made! A few years later I graduated from Platt College in Huntington Beach with an Associates in Graphic Design and then a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication with a specialization in 3D animation/Video.

Story behind the name:  (Read more in depth blog post)

Nabuki is derived from the "N" from the first initial of my name and "abu" from "the first 3 letters of my last name and "ki" comes from the love I have for Tiki Culture. Also the kanji of "ki" means 'skill' in Japanese generally referring to a performer in kabuki theatre. I did a nod to the word "Kabuki". The individual kanji that make up the word kabuki can be read as "sing" (歌), "dance" (舞), and "skill" (伎). Kabuki is therefore sometimes translated as "the art of singing and dancing"(which I enjoy everything about it!)

I can NEVER be bored.
When I'm not playing with pixels on a screen, (including gaming, binging tv shows or movies), here are a few things I thoroughly enjoy:

- Laughing  and cackling with my life's co-star.
- Petting my corgis and chorgi like a obsessed fan.
- Making use of my green thumb
- Karaoke when I don't lose my voice from laughing too much
- Venturing to a bookstore....(nothing beats hanging out in a physical bookstore in person)
- Hoarding....I mean flipping through old/new magazines
- Exercising on the rower when its not hot or when i'm not feeling bloated.
- Birding.
