NABUKI - Why the name?

I have a few nicknames, some of which started since birth and new ones erupted through out my youth to high school and even through college. It just seems to never stop and continues on Into my adult years. But one thing I grew to want to create was my own designer name, my own brand that embodies who I am.

Nabuki I believe started In 2009???? I may be wrong and may need to recheck this date at a later time when I'm more awake. Anyways, here goes the "how" story of how I came up with this.....I'm just going to copy and paste what I wrote on my website under my About section. Nabuki is derived from the "N" from the first initial of my name and "ABU" from "the first 3 letters of my last name and "KI" comes from the love I have for Tiki Culture. Also the kanji of "ki" means 'skill' in Japanese generally referring to a performer in kabuki theatre. I did a nod to the word "Kabuki". The individual kanji that make up the word kabuki can be read as "sing" (歌), "dance" (舞), and "skill" (伎). Kabuki is therefore sometimes translated as "the art of singing and dancing"(which I enjoy everything about it!)

Once I created this name, It was like an Instant YES!! and I felt like this Is perfect. It's rare to have anything really perfect In life but for that moment and til now I still feel one with this name. It was like It was In me the whole time and just needed to make Its birth. It's my brand and Is continuously growing with me as I go through this roller coaster of life. I wanted a name that I can do so much with as I am a creator. I didn't want to be limited. I once had Nabuki Digital Designs for a few years but I realized I'm more than that and Its sooooo boring sounding. So I removed It and added "CREATIONS" to my new company name. I wanted to keep It general so I'm not limited. I also did a nod to the surfing brand of Hawaiian Island Creations. (which nobody else. would really know that) When I was In elementary school I fell In love with brands and their logos and the clothing designs on the tshirts and gear etc. There was something about that company that drew me In. (I'll have another post that describes this time of my life and my early years of design.)

So as of this moment I am Nabuki of Nabuki Creations and most likely It will remain this way as I could not see It any other way. =) Besides doing graphic design, I also video edit, create things with my hands (ceramics, crafty goodies, etc) and coming soon will be music production! I'm excited to venture back In music. I've played piano since I was 6 and was In band since 11 or so playing the flute. I've dabbled with other musical Instruments throughout the years. But music Is like chicken soup for the soul! Anyways, I'm blabbering away now. The End. - Nabuki
