The Hidden Side of Strong
You Never Really Know What Someone Is Carrying One thing I've learned as I've gotten older is that you never truly know what someone is carrying behind the scenes. A person can be smiling, laughing, posting happy photos, showing up to work, and doing all the things they're supposed to do, yet still be fighting battles no one else can see. We often assume that because someone looks okay on the outside, they must be okay on the inside. The truth is, many people become experts a

In Defense of Staying Home
One of the hardest things for me isn't being busy—it's letting myself not be busy. Not because I don't enjoy downtime, but because there always seems to be something happening. A birthday. A dinner. A work meeting. Helping a loved one. A "we should get together soon" that somehow turns into three separate events. There is always another invitation, another gathering, another reason to leave the house. And the truth is—I love my friends and family. I genuinely enjoy spending

Boundaries, Finally
For a long time, I thought being kind meant always saying yes. I’d go out of my way to make people happy, avoid conflict, and keep things smooth—even if it meant ignoring my own needs. On the outside, it probably looked like I had it all together. But underneath, I was drained, frustrated, and quietly overwhelmed. The hardest part wasn’t what I was doing for others—it was what I wasn’t doing for myself. I didn’t know how to say no. I avoided negative reactions. I convinced my

Late Night Owl - Why?
I learned that my mom was the same way. She would study when everyone was sleeping. I did the best stuff late nights through early mornings since I was in high school. Probably a bad habit? But it works for me! There’s something about being a late-night owl that just fits the way my brain works. When the world quiets down, everything else seems to get louder—in a good way. Ideas show up without forcing them. Thoughts feel less crowded. It’s like creativity finally has room to

Where Design First Found Me
I really loved drawing, like most kids do but my first memories and awareness of being really attracted to "design" really stemmed from clothing brands. I realize now how fortunate I was as a child to be given the clothes I had and on top of It be able to choose styles I liked. My mom was very much Into fashion as well and exposed me to my first brands. Growing up in the 80s, I had clothes and gear from Esprit, Guess, Benetton, Swatch etc... I actually had this same bag in e

NABUKI - Why the name?
I have a few nicknames, some of which started since birth and new ones erupted through out my youth to high school and even through college. It just seems to never stop and continues on Into my adult years. But one thing I grew to want to create was my own designer name, my own brand that embodies who I am. Nabuki I believe started In 2009???? I may be wrong and may need to recheck this date at a later time when I'm more awake. Anyways, here goes the "how" story of how I came
